Peer Link Workers

Peer Link Workers

Our Peer Link Worker service is currently suspended due to Coronavirus.

In the meantime if you would like to join us for our regular Zoom coffee meetings please email for login details

Peer Link Workers are based on non-clinical interventions aimed at helping to prevent a crisis or relapse with an individual’s mental health, whilst providing a safe and accessible support network through signposting and referral to the relevant services and organisations that can offer additional support as required. The help and support we offer is tailored specifically to each person and their circumstances.

The Peer Link Workers have a good working relationship with a number of services and organisations and have helped individuals with the following:

  • Housing issues
  • Benefit issues
  • GP appointments
  • Social Inclusion and activities

Need some help?

You can refer into the Peer Link Worker service by

  • E-mail
  • Phone
  • the Shine Network and the Neighbourhood Team
  • Clients can self-refer

This is what the PLW’s Do!

  • Listen without judgement
  • Provide a safe, secure and relaxing environment
  • Meet with clients and assess their needs and requirements
  • Offer a confidential service
  • Signpost and refer clients to the correct organisation that can assist them with their issues
  • Offer clients one-to-one immediate peer link support
  • Buddy clients to appointments and activities
  • Support clients to engage with society and socialise
  • Build a recovery roadmap with each client
  • Encourage independence

What the PLW’s Don’t Do!

  • Judge the client
  • Tell clients what to do
  • Fill in forms for the client, we will talk them through the process however the clients need to complete the forms themselves or we will refer them to an organisation that can assist them
  • Give advice on medical matters or medication
  • Conduct home visits unless supported by a professional
  • Work alone, the safety of the PLW’s is our priority
  • Become personally involved with clients
  • Accept abusive behaviour

Once a referral has come through to the team, the PLW’s contact you and arrange a suitable appointment. PLW’s will only do home visits when they are supporting a professional. They will assess your needs and guide you to solutions and as required sign post you to relevant agencies whilst offering continued non-judgemental support.

In addition to signposting and referral pathways, we offer you practical support such as buddying clients to GP appointments, social activities and job centre appointments.

Shine is preparing to recruit the next group of volunteers* to be trained to become PLW’s in Lincolnshire. This is an exciting opportunity for anyone that wants to give back by volunteering. Shine offers a very supportive, understanding and encouraging environment for volunteers to grow, build their skills, develop their self-esteem, meet new people and be part of a team that love what they do.
